What it is
Heavy cotton canvas — 10 to 12 oz, roughly 340 to 400 GSM — is flat, stable and tightly woven, which is exactly what embroidery and print want. Embroidery on a tote goes in with a sharp 80/12 needle and a tear-away backing, and because the fabric barely moves it can carry large, dense fills, fine lettering and multi-colour logos that would be a risk on a t-shirt. Printing gives the opposite strength: a full-face graphic, a photograph or a long line of text across the whole bag, in DTF for one to a few hundred and screen print for more.
Positions: the centre of the face, usually 15 to 25 cm wide for a print and 8 to 15 cm for an embroidered logo; a small mark at the bottom corner; the back; or both sides. We keep the design clear of the handle seams and the gusset and show it on a mockup of the real bag. Gusseted and zip totes are hooped flat, panel by panel; jute and open-weave bags get a topping and bold, simple shapes.
